The father of the Newton boys mentioned was William Newton 1798-1862, a founder member of the partnership Newton Jones and Willis Drapers of Temple Row Birmingham. On his retirement the partnership became Jones and Willis later to become one of the largest companies of church furnishings manufacture in Europe exhibiting in London, Paris and Vienna. The company ceased trading in the mid 1930s after 80 years. William Newton was quite clearly instrumental in setting this in motion. My husband is a descendant of the Willis family.
Thank you for filling in another piece of the jigsaw for me.
Edwina McCombeAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03277547621641862466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7664161328950208999.post-29855789927704647142019-05-19T09:50:06.657-07:002019-05-19T09:50:06.657-07:00My grandfather, A C Coldicott was land agent for t...My grandfather, A C Coldicott was land agent for the Newton’s at Barrells Hall in Warwickshire ( the principal family residence), but was also responsible for Glencrippeddale. My mother ( the last of 10 Coldicott) would recount wonderful reminiscences of her childhood summers spent at Laudale House - then the house for the land agent.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14673210232056329078noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7664161328950208999.post-9650969575740123042012-09-05T12:50:39.998-07:002012-09-05T12:50:39.998-07:00My Father and his family used to spend June to Oct...My Father and his family used to spend June to October every year at Glen from the mid 1930's. They would hire a train from London and ship up the entire household from Fleet in Hampshire where they lived. They had a twenty year Lease on the property, and our family name is CROSS.
