They were described as labourers. (Probably a temporary relocation from Glenquoich whilst repairing roads and culverts).
My Aunt recounted that my Grandfather and Great-grandfather 'went out with the toffs for shooting and fishing; on one occasion, one of the guests had a shooting accident, and bled to death for lack of medical care'
I found out some of the above whilst researching my family tree 7 or 8 years ago; and in 2015 we drove up from Edinburgh to Kinloch Hourn to see if the 'roadside hut' at Coire Shubh still existed. It didn't, of course, but there was a ruined bothy nearby. At least it wasn't under 50 feet of water, like Glenquoich Lodge.
Your blog and photographs are marvellous - they have fleshed out my sketchy knowledge of my ancestors' lives tremendously - thank you!

Phil SummerfieldPhil Summerfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16660000908172035594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7664161328950208999.post-50844988322198545762019-03-01T09:49:05.905-08:002019-03-01T09:49:05.905-08:00The Ellice family also made a lot of money out of ...The Ellice family also made a lot of money out of slavery; the Dochfours were up to their necks in money made out of chattel slavery. I think it was called Glenlair House. Residents were promised jobs with the hydro,(which never happened!) and others were reluctantly cleared from their homes! There is a book called “The Last Clearance” available which details the whole episode.
